The design

The Hoar Rock Project is a light-filled, welcoming home designed around a strong connection with its surrounding landscape. Natural materials, earthy tones and carefully considered views create continuity between the interior and exterior, keeping the landscape closely connected to everyday life.

The home was designed to accommodate both everyday living and entertaining, with generous spaces for gathering and hosting guests. Throughout the property, the positioning of rooms and openings creates a natural flow while maintaining visual connections with the outdoors.

I was commissioned to photograph the finished project, creating a combination of wide architectural images and more detailed photographs that showcase the design and craftsmanship throughout the home.

For me, one of the most interesting aspects of photographing this project was the relationship between the larger architectural spaces and the smaller design details. The brickwork, cabinetry, lighting, planting and carefully selected materials all contribute to the character of the home, so I wanted the photography to give both the overall space and these individual elements their own presence.

Natural light also played an important role in the photography. I focused on capturing the way light moves through the rooms and how the different spaces connect, while using clean compositions to maintain a sense of flow throughout the set of images.

The photography was commissioned by Red Island Interiors, with the production also shared with Onovo, the kitchen and joinery company, and Keane Windows. The resulting imagery provides each collaborator with a visual record of their contribution to the project, while creating a cohesive story of the completed home.
