The project & my perspective

This project involved photographing multiple OffBeat Donuts locations across Dublin and Cork, with two half-day shoots in each city. I was brought in to capture the interiors and, most importantly, the vibe—spaces driven by bold colour, strong identity, and a playful energy that defines the brand.

OffBeat Donuts is known for its vibrant and expressive retail environments, combining industrial touches, natural finishes, and striking branding to create a fun, engaging customer experience. Designed to stand out—especially within busy retail settings—the spaces act as a visual extension of the brand’s personality.

From a photography perspective, the challenge was to translate that energy without losing control of the image. Colour-heavy interiors can easily become overwhelming, so I focused on clean compositions and balanced lighting to keep everything intentional while still letting the space feel dynamic and alive.

A key part of the shoot was also highlighting the custom artwork created for the brand. Making sure these elements had presence within the wider space was essential, as they play a big role in shaping the overall experience and identity of each store.

How do you handle challenging lighting conditions in basement photoshoots without compromising the design?

Basements often come with mixed or artificial lighting that can distort colours and distract from the design. In this gallery, the approach was to control and balance those light sources rather than eliminate them completely. By blending ambient light with controlled flash, I was able to reduce and control unwanted colour casts while still keeping a sense of atmosphere. The result is a set of images where the lighting enhances the mood of the space, instead of competing with the materials, tones, and overall design.
